From mid-July through mid-September, CMZC opens its facilities for external groups practicing meditation, yoga, dance, bodywork, writing, or psychotherapy. It’s one way we share our field of practice with the world.
Our Summer Work Practice program offers short-term residency to those interested in beginning or continuing Zen practice with the support of a community. Students participate in the daily life of CMZC, which includes several periods of Zazen (sitting meditation), services (sutra chanting), morning and afternoon work (frequently of a physical nature), study time, weekly dharma talks and discussion groups, and the opportunity for meeting with the resident teacher. Student Retreats are free of charge for a limited number of work trade positions (2 week minimum). Otherwise the regular student rates apply.
During the summer months, most of our accommodations are rented to our visiting group, therefore, the only accommodation we might be able to offer is camping. You will have access to bathrooms and showers in our Guest House.
A copy of our summer schedule can be found here.
To join the summer work practice, or apply for a Work Trade Scholarship, please contact us by email or phone.
Arrival and departure are best timed with the beginning and end of a group retreat. Please inquire with our office about possible arrival and departure dates.
